It’s not my fault! Or is it?

Have you ever noticed that some people just seem to “sail through” life and get all the “lucky breaks”?  Whilst other people seem to be visited by the bad luck fairy all the time?

Is this a phenomenon?  Are some people “blessed”?  Or is there something else at play here?

Here’s the truth … we’re all 100% responsible for the results (or non results) in our life.  Ouch!

Now before you start to give me the lecture about “If you only knew what had happened in my life you wouldn’t say that” I just want you to pause, put that argument aside for the moment and just hear me out.  Trust me, this was a big one for me to swallow as well because this being true, I’d been screwing up my own life for years … and years!

There are quite a few models around this kind of thinking that you may have come across before: Above the line and Below the line thinking or Cause vs Effect are two very well known ones.  You can either accept that things just happen to you and therefore you’re at the Effect of the world around you or you can choose to believe by taking 100% responsibility for the situations you place yourself in and how you respond to them you are at Cause for the results in your life.

Stuff happens to everyone in their life, no one is immune.  It’s how you respond (rather than react) when things happen that will determine your success in life.  Think of people like Nelson Mandela or Oprah Winfrey or choose any Paralympian.

Choose to respond with grace and humility rather than complaining to anyone and everyone who’ll stand still long enough to hear you.  Take your focus off your “problem” and really put effort into a positive solution and take action.

If you’re still happy to sit in the camp that life just happens and you can’t do anything about it that’s fine, that’s your choice.  It also means that you’re putting the responsibility for your results into the hands of others.  So don’t complain if you don’t like the outcome you get!

If being 100% responsible for your thinking and therefore your results is exciting to you (and I sincerely hope it is!) and you’d like to receive my free article that goes into more detail on this topic then please enter your details below.

In the words of John Lennon “There’s no problems, only solutions”.
